About

OK, mainly I made this page because there is misinformation here. I’m not a show-dog handler, jazz musician, or Tae-Bo enthusiast.

I was born in Hong Kong in 1975, moved to Canada in 1977. I studied creative writing at the University of British Columbia and Columbia University, where I got my MFA.

So far, I’ve seven books out, including my forthcoming novel, THE DOUBLE LIFE OF BENSON YU. I used to make a living as a freelance writer, and I still freelance a little bit. But now I’m mainly a teacher. Until recently, it was at UBC Creative Writing and The Writer’s Studio at Simon Fraser University. Since July 2020, I’ve taught at UBCO in Kelowna, where I’m presently an Associate Professor.

I (still) live in Vancouver with my wife and kids.
